san antonio trip

Connie took Chris, Adam and Aaron to San Antonio over the MLK Day holiday.  It was fun for them to get away and take a break from school.  They stayed in a hotel on the River Walk and took the River Walk tour.  They also visited the Alamo, Tower of America’s and various other places of interest.  I think it was very educational for the boys and they had a great time with Mom.

princess party

Connie took Abbey and Ainsley to our local Chick-fil-a for a princess party.  The whole store was decorated and full of little princesses.  They got to take a limo ride and took some wonderful pictures.    What beautiful little girls I have!

our colorado trip

Well, we did it again! We loaded up the Expedition with a week’s worth of stuff and 6 kids and drove 850 one way miles to Colorado…  In all honesty, the kids really did a great job on the trip. Not sure if it was the laptops, iPods, iPhones and Nintendo DS’ that made the trip more bearable, or that it was because we actually had enough sanity to break the trip up into 2 days, instead of driving all the way through like we did last time… ;-)

Anyway, we enjoyed a beautiful week in the Sangre de Christo mountains in southeast Colorado, near Trinidad.  Special thanks to Jerry and Jean Law for the use of the Lost Posse Ranch and the LawG Cabin.  We visited once a couple of years ago, hoping for the kids to experience a snowfall, but alas, it didn’t happen. This year, there was snow everywhere! The kids got out the sleds and went to town.  On the last night we were there, it dropped so much snow that we were very concerned as to whether we would make it back down the mountain or not.  So, snow was everywhere.  It was cold with high winds at night.  I would guess that some nights the temps with wind chill went below 0 degrees F.  On one day, we drove down the Highway of Legends and visited the StoneWall Gap, Monument and North Lake, and the San Isabel National Forest.  On other days, we just hung out at the cabin and enjoyed each other’s company.  We had one day where the winds stayed calm and the sun was out, so the boys took me on a hike to the bottom of the mountain (and yes, back up again)…  That night, we had a campfire outside and made smores…

All in all, it was a wonderful trip. On the way back, we made a slight detour north to Oklahoma so that the kids could say that they have visited there and once we got into Fort Worth, we stopped and visited with Granny McGee and Leia and Cori. We are very thankful to be back home and have things return to normal, but it was a BLAST!!!
